Ernesto and I finally decided to try Duplex, a restaurant in Uptown that we'd passed by many times thinking that it didn't have much appeal. We made our way up the stairs and chose a spot on the porch of the "duplex", a house that has been remade into a quaint little wine bar and restaurant. We had planned to have a beer and a simple appetizer, which we did, that is, until we got to the taquitos. The triangular taquitos were neatly displayed on top of a homemade salsa. Inside the light and flaky pastries were potatoes. As soon as we finished, the server reminded us that we still had a free beer since it was 2 for 1 happy hour. We took the offer and decided to scan the menu for more delicious eats. I landed on the fresh pasta with smoked salmon and Ernesto chose the potato gnocchi with tangy tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. I dared to move onto the dessert; reassured that they were made on the premises. The mango and berry cobbler arrived with a side of 1/2 & 1/2 which was as delicious as the rest of the food. I don't think that we'll be passing Duplex next time.
